“Donut Grow Up” Quarantine Birthday Party

Last September, Gianna started talking about how much she loved donuts. I said, “Maybe we could do a donut party?” And lo and behold, that little stinker never forgot. In fact, we’ve been hearing about this infamous donut party for 9 solid months. When COVID-19 hit, I was like, oh hell no. We are having a party no matter what (socially distanced and CDC compliant, of course).

So we did.

I texted her Godparents, family and a handful of her sweet friends. Normally, I send out invites, but yeah. That quarantine life.

Then, the girls and I got to planning. Scott hauled out the party farm table and Amazon, Chick-Fil-A and Party City curbside saved the day. My Pinterest board has a few ideas that were fun to put into action.

Typically, I’ll have a party favor for the guests and lots of activities. Not this year. We just ate, drank and enjoyed the (socially distanced) company. Everybody had a blast. But, if you’re wondering what activities we would’ve done, you can bet one of them would’ve been “pin the sprinkle on the donut.” A twist on the classic “pin the tail on the donkey.” We’ve done beaks on owls, butterflies on the Eiffel Tower, clouds on the rainbow, moustache on the birthday boy and many more. It’s always a fan favorite.

We tried our hand at a balloon garland for the first time. Definitely doing that again. If only you could’ve seen me trying to figure out the air compressor. Scott should’ve recorded that FaceTime call.

Without further ado, the birthday girl and the party table. We made donut hole and fruit kabobs, donut rice krispy treats, cookies, peach rings, Chick-Fil-A lemonade (my pleasure!) and Shiner (for the adults). PERFECTION.

Pandemic or not, I can’t quit parties. Even if this one looked different, the joy of having real-life connections with people was such a gift. There sure wasn’t a cancellation of birthday joy! Happy birthday, Gianna!
