Your Bracket’s Busted

Spring break, be still my heart.

But, Daylight Savings? I’ve got nothing for you. Dinner feels like lunch and breakfast is brunch because I can’t get my lazy self out of bed. Next Monday is gonna sting, but for now, I’ll just lean into it.

We started off our week with a little detour into the Texas hill country in search of bluebonnets. We found one. Not an exaggeration. I think we’re about two weeks too early. But don’t you worry, I’ve got my eye on a spot to take some family photos. We’ll see if it pans out. For all you non-Texans wondering about this entire paragraph, I’m sorry. We do so love our state flower. When it blooms in spring, people go nuts for *the* photo. It’s a rite of passage every year.

While we were searching for bluebonnets, the kids took some great photos for their 4-H photography project. I almost took Will out with the reflector we were both trying to figure out how to use. We laughed so hard we almost peed our pants. Thankfully, we only scared the cow. I think.

Monday was filled with sewing and record books. Now I sound like Laura Ingalls, except I’m pretty sure she didn’t sigh heavily and have to excuse herself to another room to shout/pray Hail Mary’s to regain composure when a fight broke out over whose turn it was to ask mom a question. Seriously, y’all? At one point, I just gave up and let everyone binge watch Food Network Star on Netflix. The boys printed out their fifth or fiftieth (still not positive) NCAA bracket. One must have options, I’m told. My bracket strategy is usually “have I heard of this school?” and “what bracket are the Aggies?” It’s slightly more advanced than my sister-in-law’s “how cool are their uniforms?” Hey, it’s not a bad way to pick your teams.

I’m sure this will be the spring break they’ll talk about for years. Tomorrow, closet clean out, more sewing, raking leaves and moving rocks are on the agenda. I’ll be sure to bake cookies since I know allll the neighborhood kids will be flocking to our house with that kind of party in motion.

And in case you’re wondering? 9 out of 10 babies are picking the Aggies to win it all. Take note of that thumb action. Gig ’em.
