Quick Five: YouTube Cameo, Fancy Boots and a Break

Life has been full these past few weeks. Fun surprises, *the* boots, talent shows, an unexpected call from Babycenter.com (more on that later this week). Always a barrel of monkeys here. Let’s break it down in five.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know how excited (and nervous) I was about this. Two months ago, I submitted one of my blog posts to the show, “Listen to Your Mother.” I was thrilled to get the email I’d made it to the audition phase. And then I realized I was going to have to read one of my most difficult posts, aloud, on stage. Eeep. With major encouragement from my husband, I did it and guess what? They said YES! Out of 45 people who auditioned that day, 11 were selected and one was me. Well I’ll be danged. On Saturday, May 7, all of us will read aloud our words to a live audience. It will then be taped and shown on the LTYM YouTube channel (which, by the way, my kids think is the coolest part of this whole thing). If you are local, I would love to see you May 7. If you’re not, I promise to post the link when it’s live. Tickets go on sale soon. Oh, and you’ll have to wait until showtime for me to spill which post! It has just been the greatest validation and I’m so excited for the show.

Call her Beethoven, but don’t call him little. A few weeks ago, Anna-Laura earned a spot in the school talent show. This, from my kid who gets über-shy in front of people and regularly avoids the spotlight unless it’s a soccer field. This was huge for her and she totally rocked it! She chose the “Star Wars” theme music. She practiced so much we’re now humming Star Wars in our sleep, but? Worth it. Way to go, Princess Leia. Sweet Luke was proud as a peacock to be in the school music/P.E. show. Here, he looks like he’s posing as 3yo infiltrating the kindergarten class. But, alas, he’s showing his prematurity. When we mentioned in passing that he was a little guy, he giggled and said, “Um, NO. I’m big.” Indeed.talent show, blog_9955

Remember when I swooned over these? Well, fast forward 2.5 years and they now officially reside in my closet. {insert all the happy dances here} I love early birthday presents.

I’m still in denial. It’s completely normal to google “Downton Abbey PBS” and binge watch all the short videos, right? Asking for a friend.

We’re on spring break, also known as PRAISE THE LORD WEEK. No homework, no getting up early to fix lunches, no sports practices, no schedule. While it seems like the rest of the world is off doing fabulous things in fabulous places, we’re just staycationing it here, avoiding all the SXSW traffic. I know, be jealous. We have some 4-H projects to wrap up (sewing! photography! record books!), closets to clean out and bluebonnets to photograph. The Mr. and I may even sneak in a movie at Alamo because we are crazy like that. My kids were all, “How come so-and-so went snow skiing/kayaking in Hawaii/playing at Disney/cruising?” And I was all, “Let’s go to Buc’ees later this week!” And they cheered. Aim low, parents, and the spring breaks of future will be on your side.

Bonus. I’ll be jumping back into regular blogging this week and I’m so looking forward to that, mostly because I have no idea what today is. Don’t you love weeks like that?
