She Said What?

You know what I love about the upcoming holiday season? The ability to get a peek into other people’s homes, through their front door and yard decorations, along with the occasional glimpse inside their front living room. I love hearing – and seeing – how other people live. What makes them tick?

More often than not, it’s affirmation that we aren’t the weirdest people on the block! Kidding. It really is great to see how other people do their day-to-day and how they roll. It always gives me such fresh perspective and a grateful heart.

In the spirit of “peeking in the front door” I thought I’d share a few things about us and our family. Because why the heck not? Here goes.

  1. All my kids sleep with a woobie. You’ve seen Mr. Mom, right? These blankets are muy importante in our house. Gianna is the only one who hasn’t found her lovey for life. Don’t you worry, we’re on it.
  2. I never make my bed, but I require it of my kids. What can I say? Mom perk. Plus, wasn’t there some study that said it’s better NOT to make your bed? Something about keeping the germs and bed bugs at bay. Yes, that’s exactly the reason I don’t make mine unless company is coming over.
  3. At least once a week, I forget to eat lunch. Scott says this is absolutely the craziest thing he’s ever heard. But it’s true. Some afternoons I’ll have a pile of client work and before I know it, the clock says 3pm and it’s time to wrap up projects and get the kids from school.
  4. For five years I wore a Boston back brace to correct my scoliosis. Talk about a date killer in high school. That brace and I were BFFs for 23 hours a day. My back used to look like this (left) and now it’s like that (right). It’s the reason I won’t wear backless dresses and I almost always stand on the right side of photographs because my left shoulder dips. back surgery_01
  5. When I was in high school, I toured the Air Force Academy and was sold. Just before we got my Senate appointment, we found out my scoliosis was a deal breaker. So…I went to Texas A&M and joined a sorority and decided to date a man in uniform. True story.
  6. Remind me to tell you about my White House story sometime. It involves Jesse Jackson and a ghetto tour of the most famous house in America.
  7. I didn’t start texting until 2010. Aaaaand, there goes my street cred. I purchased my first smart phone in late 2009 and when the AT&T guy asked to transfer over my contacts, I looked at him with a blank stare. He said, “It will only take a few minutes,” to which I replied, “I have all three of them memorized.”

That’s enough for this beautiful Friday. Time to shut the blinds and enjoy the weekend! I’m off to spend some time in Fredericksburg with some lovely Catholic women bloggers. Pray for us because the weather is supposed to be brutal!

I love this, Kathryn! I am the same with lunch, and those back pictures are amazing! Also, I still don’t text. And I still have a flip phone. Yikes.

#7: You have me beat! I started texting on my flip phone in 2014. I just got my first smart phone 3 months ago, and I still can’t fathom how people text one handed while holding the phone in their other hand! (I am very dependent on having a full keyboard!). My contact list for texting is very short; mostly just moms who I need to contact for playdates.

Love your candid posts! My husband and I just started texting. For real! We never had a text plan until August of this year.

I’ve got scoliosis too, except I refused to wear my brace sooo I’ve still got the curve (48 degrees). It’s started to cause a lot of pain, so next week I start pain management. No surgery for now, though I think it is probably unavoidable at this point.

I was 65 degrees when my surgeon finally made the call. I hope pain management helps you!

Woobies, huh? Guess the apples don’t fall far from the tree. I remember a certain “someone” bringing her woobie on our Fish Camp adventures one summer. ?

      Zip it, Meggan.
