Dr Pepper “23 Flavors” Birthday
I may not have had favor boxes, a pinata or a fancy new dress, but I did celebrate 39 in style. The Saturday before my birthday, the Mr. and I feasted at Eddie V’s. Oh y’all, if you live in Austin, this is a fabulous place to dine. Pricey, but awesome.
It’s no secret I *heart* Dr Pepper. I have been in love since high school. At the time I was drinking Coke and my dermatologist told me that I should switch to DP, it was easier on your skin. True story. So an ACTUAL doctor recommended I drink it.
Good enough for me.
My parents came over for dinner on Sunday evening and we did it up right. A menu full of 23 flavor goodness. Thank you, Pinterest.
Dr Pepper Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Dr Pepper cookies and cake (compliments of sweet Polkadots!)
Dr Pepper Ice Cream
Dr Pepper!
*all those recipes are on my DP Pinterest board
And, because the celebrating should last forever, my actual birthday was a blast! I was a station leader for VBS and all 250 kids surprised me by singing the “happy birthday” song and bringing out cake. Talk about feeling the love.
By some massive omission of Austinite heritage, I have somehow managed to live in Austin for a decade and not eat a Torchy’s Taco. Criminal. It’s criminal. This is the “trashy trailer park” (trashy because I substituted queso for lettuce, wouldn’t you??) Next time I may go bi-partisan and get the Democrat, or call it a loss and go Independent. So many choices.
The weather was just beautiful and the kids ran and played while we finished up our tacos. And, at $23 for 7 people, I’d say this is a place we’ll be visiting again. And again. They also have some rockin’ picnic tables that I am trying to score. Extra-wide seats and our whole family fit on them. Love!
To cap off a spectacular year, the neighborhood gals treated me to my all-time favorite place on So-Co, Guero’s Taco Bar. Do we see a theme here? Just remember three words when you eat there: “Fish Tacos” and “Queso”. You’ll thank me later. We ended the night at a downtown bar, Halcyon, and enjoyed s’mores and sweet tea, tableside. It was the loveliest of nights. I even busted out the non-mom clothes. Yeah, so you know it’s a party.
Birthday month is almost coming to a close, but we’re squeezing in one last hurrah with the other birthday girl in the house, Clare! It’ll be rainbows, clouds and color come June 28. June babies rock.
Happy belated B-day! Love the wrought iron grille!
You sure know how to party! Looking good!!!
(and please apologize to Clare for me … I sent her bd card to Claire, I’ll try to remember that for next year… actually, you’d think I would have figured it out by now)
God bless!

Sounds like an awesome birthday!
Love your Dr Pepper birthday!! Huge fan of DP myself…
Tried to “break up” with the good Dr recently… didn’t last long. 😉
I discovered your blog after your son got to meet Johnny Manziel at the state capitol, and I’ve followed your blog since.
My husband and I met at A&M. We were both Fighting Texas Aggie Bus Drivers (c/o ’95 – WHOOP!) We are doing our best to raise Atlanta Aggies – the move to the SEC helps. So far, so good.
As a kindred Dr Pepper loving, blogging (not as well as you!), Aggie Catholic, I just want to say keep up the good work!
Stacie, WHOOP!! Welcome to the blog. I’m so honored you read the letter and stuck around. Best of luck raising those Atlanta Aggies. It’s tough when you’re out of state, but it can be done 😉
Love the Dr. Pepper birthday – too perfect. I came across this map earlier today showing brands created in each state. When I saw Texas I *obviously* thought of you. How cool that the internet can keep us all connected in these crazy ways.

Julia, that is awesome!! I’m totally bookmarking that site. Long live DP!
I’m glad you had such a nice birthday! I’m a big fan of birthday weekends/weeks/months (whatever I can get away with). My birthday is next week, but I’m having a hard time planning it because we have so much going on right now. Anyway. Happy Birthday! Those tacos look delicious!
