Basketball Roundup

In my brain, I definitely shared these photos. But according to the blog, I, in fact, did not. So…just two (or three) months behind here.

The three oldest competed in basketball leagues this year. For some *smart* reason I thought it would be fun to put them in three different leagues. It was SO not. The leagues were awesome but coordinating practice and game schedules and shuttling kids 9,000 places was not one of my finer moments as a mom.

Live and learn.

Here’s some proof the kiddos had loads of fun.

Anna-Laura participated on a team of all Catholic girls which was super fun. Most of them go to school together, so that made it even better. Scott served as an assistant coach and I think Anna-Laura was okay with that. She does love her daddy. Her ball handling skills really improved and she was over-the-moon excited to make several shots throughout the season. We’re still working on getting her to understand what her dad means when he says: “Use the backboard!”

John Paul played with a few buddies from school, too. It was his second season playing and he was much more aggressive. We gotta work on slowing him down! I typically saw either half of his game or half of Anna-Laura’s because they were always back-to-back in two different gyms. As of late, I haven’t figured out how to bilocate. Paging Padre Pio. I do love John Paul’s air shot (below). I’m mostly impressed with the follow-through. One more season and then he gets to play at school with Dad as coach. Cannot wait.

Will played his second season at school and boy did he improve. I saw a leader emerge on the court. He may not have the athletic ability of some of his teammates but he has such an understanding of the game. He started talking about keys and screens and lost me. I just know that Scott did less yelling at him this year about where he was supposed to be. Spoken like a true mom, eh? Most games, Luke could be found running to the sideline to fill the role of “team mascot” and Clare was playing on my iPhone. Luke so badly wants to be a big kid and those fifth and sixth graders were happy to welcome him on the court.

All in all, three great seasons. Perhaps next year we can get ourselves into less gyms!

I think we all agree on that picture of Luke absorbing all of Scott’s instructions. He will be well-versed in all aspects of the game when he gets to be a “big kid”. He is so adorable!

    Love you all,

I can so relate to having the need to bilocate. With a son in 3 sports, and a daughter in 2, it always seems someone needs to be somewhere at the same time as someone else! I am sure you handled it all beautifully.
