Before & After: The Breakfast Area
Some people call it the breakfast area, I call it the free for all. Just about every morsel of food that gets consumed, gets eaten here. It really is the heart of our home. When we first moved in to the house, this poor, sad room looked so blah.
The white walls, the 1985 brass chandelier, the mop in the corner and completely bare windows, they started to wear on me. But, for some added perspective, this photo was taken in June 2009. Yes, it’s taken us that long to get it together in that room. We just completed it last week!
The table was a beautiful gift from a dear friend. Is is made of solid mesquite, seats eight and that bad boy weighs well over 600 pounds. It is never leaving this house, ever. You know, I have a few pieces of furniture that I hope to keep in the family forever. This is one of those pieces. Melanie, every time we eat at this table, I think of you.
After we added the table, we added paint (cheapest way to change a room for sure) and I begged Scott to go with red on the bottom. He was skeptical, but it turned out great. Then, I found the most fabulous fabric ever. You can just ask the infamous Sarah Richardson. But, for bragging rights I should probably point out I fell in love with it BEFORE it showed up in her Farmhouse Entryway. Someday, when I am rich and famous she is designing my house.
Moving on.
We added the light fixture, an on-sale find at Lowe’s and then the room just sat. It was fine, really, until Luke decided he no longer wanted to sit in the high chair. For months, we’ve been dragging the desk chair to the table. You see, the table only had six chairs and the guy that made them is no longer available. We’ve been hemming and hawing about what to do for well over two years.
Finally, I found these at Pier 1. *love* That slip cover comes off and can be laundered and pressed to fit back on the chair. Even betta.
It’s a room we’ve always loved, now we just love it a bit more. Let’s look at that before one more time and then see the after!

Once again… you are amazing! I want to be just like you when I grow up!
Love you!

Isn’t it amazing what paint and fabric can do to warm up a space! Beautiful transition. Thanks for sharing.
I love that there is a seat for Jesus at your table…
I want that table! We need a round table in our “nook” and we can’t find one that will accommodate all 6 of us. It sounds like that might be a custom table though–so beautiful!!!!
. . .I forgot to say how pretty the “after” looks! Good job on the chairs and I LOVE the fabric for the curtains. Now I have the “bug”.
Very nice!! I am glad you have the table…. don’t forget the wings! Love and miss you guys so very much!
