The Glory of Rome! Day four.

For all you fans of the movie Gladiator, you know about the glory of Rome. Today we visited the Forum and Coloseo and many other sites. Lots of walking! I wish I had that pedometer to know how many miles we walked.

We started the day with Mass at Santa Maria Maggiore. What a beautiful place. Legend has it that Rome prayed for a sign as to where to build a Basilica. It snowed on this very site and SMM was built. Also here are piecese of the manger from Jesus’ birth.

Then we headed over to San Pietro en Vincoli. Here are the chains that were used to imprison Peter and Moses by Michaelangelo.

Off to the Forum. What a place. To see stuff from before Christ’s birth and others dated around 200 AD was incredible. I can only imagine what it was like for Marcus Arelius to march into Rome through the Arches all for the Glory of Rome. What history!

We also had some fun…see the street name? Perhaps a vision of the future for our trip leader…

Water from Rome…there is none better. Why can’t anyone else figure this out. I guess 2,000 years from now when they dig up our ruins and find plastic bottles they will know how bad we really are.

Well gang, off for now to clean up and get ready for dinner. Think I might get to bed early tonight with a big day to Firenze. I can smell the leather already…

Keep the prayers coming. You were in mine this morning in Mass.

It’s weird to see Bishop Aymond in street clothes.
