What a trip.
And here I thought having a fifth baby would be easy street. For those just joining the blog, Luke is our fifth baby (my sixth pregnancy) who arrived at 36 weeks 3 days at an itty bitty 3lbs. 9oz. - all due to growth restriction in utero. He had some defects right out of the gate, but all were complicated by a really nasty intestinal infection, necrotizing enterocolitis, NEC for short. He had 16cm of his small intestine removed during an ...
Birthday Boys
Luke is still recovering today and all seems to be falling in place. After a rough night of pain and an awful morning, we got his pain management under control with a new drug in the epidural, he received blood and plasma, oxygen, new leads for his apnea and heart rate monitors, cleaned his face with a sponge, antibiotics and visits from several nurses and doctors. K said he was sleeping about 10 pm and she was about to do the same. Continue ...

But saying that final goodbye...nothing ever really prepares the heart for that.I am ever more thankful that I ...
If I may…

Dealing with the insurance company. Doesn't matter which one, they're all in the same boat.I've found more mistakes on our EOBs (explanation of benefits), been charged for things that didn't happen, double charged for things that did, told things were denied and made to believe that some things ...
Top Ten: Never Say Never, Huh?
I've often said, "Oh, I will never do X." Only to be shamed into actually doing it and hearing an 'I told you so.' Funny haha. This weekend John Paul's teachers asked us to send in a photo of our child's baptism. That scavenger hunt led me down memory lane and I saw just how much Scott and I have aged (I mean, learned) in the last 9 years. My my, I could so write that book just on this topic ...

... and welcome to the chaos. I know a thing or two about big families (I've got 6 kids), carpool, Catholic converts, the Texas Aggies, prematurity, date nights with Mr. Whitaker, organization and party planning, but I still don't know why it's so hard for my kids to put up their shoes. My Texas-sized heart is honored to have you here! Contact me at kathrynwhitakertx@gmail.com
