Go USA! A Patriotic World Cup Soccer Birthday
Soccer is life.
Or, at least my 11yo thinks so. She asked for a World Cup soccer birthday party a few months ago. Between the Team USA logo and the proximity of her birthday to the Memorial Day weekend – red, white and blue, it was. Let’s chat details.
The Food
Isn’t it always about the food? People come to parties for two things – fun and great food. I try to deliver on both, heavy on the fun. There were so many great ideas in my brain, and on Pinterest, for patriotic food. But, we finally narrowed it down.
The menu? Kick it Koolaid, Star Pops, Red/White/Blue Fruit Skewers and Go USA! Cookies. Throw in a few red twizzlers and white chocolate covered pretzels and we called it done. I promise I serve more than sugar at our parties. The main course was homemade pizza with no fancy name or design. But, it’s a family and party favorite, and it never disappoints.
A note about that backdrop. Just get yourself some crepe paper, push pins, a large canvas and a husband who can do math. As in, 1-2-3. I kept forgetting to put the red after the blue! I know. It’s a good thing I married him. I do so love how it turned out and it only took about 15 minutes.
The Fun
Before we got to the sugar, I made the girls work for it. We enjoyed a raucous game of soccer with our youngest boy as the goalie. HA! So much fun. We were low-key. There were no refs, no real goals, no pennies, just an old-fashioned game of soccer.
A sweet friend who does fantastic embroidery and vinyl work made this shirt for Anna-Laura. I know!!!! (her shop link is below)
The Happy Birthday Song & Party Favors
After we loaded up the crew and came back to the house, the girls enjoyed pizza + sugar + so many giggles. I can assure there aren’t many sounds greater than a back patio full of 11yo laughter. We bid the girls adieu and sent them on their way with a USA necklace and a bag of homemade patriotic popcorn. Yes, that star glitter is edible. Oh, you should’ve heard the squeals.
I really love this party planning gig. It’s such a joy to take an interest of my child’s and make it so very special for them. I pray after the day is all said and done – greater than the sugar high or the matching printables – they know just how much they’re loved and cherished in our house. Birthdays, the day God gave you life!
Happy birthday, ALG. We adore you.
