An Interview…With Sass
I’ve heard from lots of you who wonder if I really do have a twang or it’s just all “y’all this” and “y’all that” on the blog. And, there are some pretty great questions in my inbox and the combox, too.
So, I figured why not open wide the gate and just do a little vlogging. The maiden voyage, so to speak.
What can I tell you about in my Texas twang?
What parenting questions do you have, because clearly after letting my son do this I am an EXPERT.
Texas Aggie trivia anyone?
Blogging questions?
School, extracurricular or chore ideas?
Have a burning HDYDI “how do you do it” topic?
Bring. It.
There could be a video coming your way, soon. But you gotta give me something to yammer about first. HA! Leave your questions in the combox. Can’t wait!
How about Lenten meals? I am always in need of new ideas :-).
Did you dunk your ring? How lone did it take you? Or, what’s your favorite Aggie tradition?
Did Scott propose to you under the Century Tree?
Picky eaters – How do you handle it?
Your discipline style – what is it? Has it always been that way? Is it the same for each of the kids?
After-school routine – Is there one? Do the kids have downtime before they hit the homework?
Friends – How often to the kids have their friends over? Do you have a specific area for them to hang out? How about finding time for you to see your friends?
Date night – HDYDI?
Dates for your kids – Do you do them? How do you make each one feel special?
How did Scott propose?
How often do you get to shop for yourself? – You have great clothes in your WIWS posts… Are you mostly an online shopper or do you hit the stores – with or without kids in tow?
Enough already 😉
Looking forward to the vlog!
Budgeting tips? I really want to try to work part time from home, but I’m not sure how to make that work, exactly…..
How do you handle/find babysitters? I feel like I have lots of options, and we’ve left them with family alot, I just don’t know when the best time to start leaving them and what type of babysitter to leave them with. So strange, since I babysat much of my jr high-college years! Plus the challenge of how much to pay, etc.
Jen, here’s a link to a post I wrote a couple of years ago. I think it addresses all those things! http://teamwhitakerdotorg.wpcomstaging.com/2012/03/hdydi-finding-a-babysitter/
HDYDI: keeping your house clean – what’s the chores routine for the kids and when did you start assigning responsibilities?
Meal time and preparation: logistically how do you juggle the kids and get food on the table, do you always have a family dinner and how does dinner clean up go?
Church…how do you handle wigglers and misbehaving kids in church and/or afterwards?
I love reading your blog and especially love your connection to your faith. It’s such a breath of fresh air! Looking forward to the video!!
How did you rearrange rooms to make room for Gianni? Was it difficult?
Ah…we haven’t moved her out of room yet. And, to be honest, we still haven’t figured out the rooms. I figure I have until Thanksgiving!
That seems to be one of those things that just works itself out!! I was just curious how you did it since your kids’ rooms look so cute and organized! Sorry about the mis-spelling of her name 🙂
Tell us about keeping your pantry locked. 🙂
I second Bonnie’s request, and then, dare I ask??….
How do you handle communicating with your hubby when he’s flirty and frisky and you’re, well, not so much, without hurting his feelings??
Schooling for kiddos…we have four, our oldest is 8 and youngest one. Currently homeschooling our oldest but going to send her to catholic school next year. Did you ever consider HS? Do u love your catholic school? How to keep family close with constant competition of friends, etc? Please lmk…am craving sound advice!
For your maiden vlogging voyage, I think it would be so perfect to hear your voice as you recite Shakepeare’s Sonnet 18. It has just enough long i’s to bring out the best of your Texas twang, and how can we not love the new flavor of Kathryn’s Shakespearean dialect! It even mentions the passing of summer–perfect timing, no? It would go viral!
HDYDI–Diaper bags/purses (the mom bag). You mentioned one of your kids getting sick in the doctor’s office and cleaning it up like it never even happened and I’ve been curious ever since. (Hooray for industrial size hand sanitizer and mega packs of baby wipes!)
But seriously–what works for you? We have similar families–many kids over a wide range of ages that come and go even while you’re out and about, people who stay home, food issues (although in our case it’s food allergies and accompanying six epi-pens and safe snacks), babes in arms, diapers, and horrors–kids who sometimes do get sick. And maybe just once in a blue moon leaving the house without kids–and remembering mom’s essentials?
Love your blog and thanks for sharing! 🙂
Oh, Marietta…I’m trying to remember what post that was. Help!
Huh… can giving a hug be an option? I mean, it’s 2014 there HAS to be a way to vlog and get a real life hug… right?! I know that hugs don’t involve twangs, but you are in Texas where everything is bigger, so your hugs have GOT to match up. 🙂
But basically, if you vlog it… I will watch it. 🙂
How do you handle Santa, and Christmas gifts? I think I remember reading that you & Scott give each child 3 gifts representing gold, frankincense, & myrrh. Is tbe Santa gift given in addition?
YAY! I’d love for you to walk us through some of your HDYDI treasures ….. like how in the heck do you handle the hot mess of bedtimes with 6 kids. (Jim Gaffigan — ‘Bedtime is HARD! It’s like hostage negotiations, only in reverse!’)
Another great one? Mornings. How do you handle mornings? Getting kids up, out the door?
And of course, my sweet friend, I realize that adding video to those situations would make them only that much more hysterically funny to the outside world.
