HDYDI: Operation Little Man Birthday Party
Because I am waaaay too tired to get all up in my Mailchimp’s publishing business, you’ll be getting these posts the day after I post them here on the blog, in your inbox. I know, technology like that just isn’t my gift. Check back in a little later today if you need your party fix before Tuesday morning.
Luke’s fourth birthday party is Friday and I cannot wait!
First on tap for today? Making my to-do list. Scott laughs because I usually make about five of these. Hey, it’s a system that works for me.
Last Thursday, while we had some van time and Scott was driving, I sketched out the dessert/favor table because that’s how I roll. My visual brain needs to see what it will look like. It rarely looks like my first draft, but as I sketch I always come up with ideas. What can I say. Graphic design brain. I’ve also learned you have to make the most of the time you have. While I sketched, I talked out loud and Scott gave me the “go” and “no go” for my ideas. I also perused Pinterest for activity ideas because let’s be real. The dessert table is all fine and pretty, but the kids should have fun. I have some cool things up my sleeve – I hope, anyway.
As ideas came to me, I added a few more things to the Pinterest board last night and today. I always post way too many and have to remind myself that I can’t do them all, as much as I want to eat the elephant. Not enough hours in the day. In a stroke of, “yes, I needed to read that,” 3 Things for Mom had a post today from the gal behind Hostess with the Mostess (HWTM). She had some great advice:
When it comes to planning parties—no matter the size—always start with a theme and “inspiration piece.” This will make all your planning-related decisions so much easier.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. My theme, little man, keeps coming back to this shirt my sweet friend texted me the other day (thanks Amber!).
So, you’ll see a fair amount of mustaches at the party. I snapped this picture of Luke this afternoon for one of our games. Anna-Laura was kind enough to hold the foam board behind him! More on Friday about which game it is. But, first, I mustache you a question: any guesses? Sorry, I’m in party planning mode.
That’s day one: putting it all down on paper, dreaming of all the fun we’ll have and zeroing in on the inspiration. Tomorrow, I’ll finally tackle some projects!
Kathryn – this looks like such a fun theme! I can’t wait to see how it comes together. One issue, though, is that your Pin It owls are right in the middle of Luke’s head. The picture would be much cuter with a smaller owl that didn’t obstruct the cuteness 🙂
[…] you’ve been following along on the blog this week, then you know I’m busy planning a party. Not just any party, though. It’s for our preemie who’s turning four. F-O-U-R. Not […]
