Did Somebody Say “Johnny Football”?
If you’re new to Team Whitaker, howdy. Yesterday was quite the day here on the blog. Still. In. Denial.

Um, so yeah. There was this:
Our big day at the Capitol the day before was so awesome I had to blog about it. Then about a hundred Aggies got in on the retweeting action, one tweet led to another and BOOM. Johnny Football himself tweeted out the link to my post. I know, I screamed, too.
The server promptly crashed. I mean, that happens when 300,000+ followers click on a link at the same time. Fortunately, I know this Longhorn (he would make the BEST Aggie, y’all) and he got me back up and running within 13 minutes. At last count, the post had 33,700 views and counting. I am still floored.

So, what was all the fuss about? This boy right here. My oldest, Will, served as a Page for the Texas House of Representatives. It was just a comedy of many divine interventions that led to Will serving as a page, being recognized as part of the 4-H group and then meeting Johnny Manziel who happened to be on the House floor for recognition that morning.

Oh, the Harry Potter birthday party. I promise, promise, promise I have some excellent photos and stories coming. Quidditch with 16 nine-year-olds. Need I say more?

Then there was the flu. It hit fast and furious. 24 hours after taking the above photo, Harry Potter went down for the count. It’s always fun to be on a swanky date with your husband and get this text from the sitter:
“John Paul just threw up. But, he said to stay and have a good time.”
It made for a dicey weekend, but we were able to get the whole gang on Tamiflu. You know, right after we took out a second mortgage on the house to pay the pharmacy bill. That was fun.

I posted over on Facebook earlier last week, but preemie Luke scored “above average” in cognitive abilities. There is so much to celebrate with that kid and this was one more reason to ask ourselves, “just how many miracles is this child gonna use up before kindergarten?” I’ll have your full 411 next week but I had to share the good news.

And, I swore I wasn’t going to talk football and politics again, but I lied. I said and said and said those words, but I lied them. I have been the one tearing up after reading all the comments, messages and posts after Will’s big day at the Capitol. I mean, y’all. One commentor asked for the letter so he could quote it in his Muster speech for goodness sakes. That one did me in. I am so humbled, really, by the outpouring of sweet words for what will likely be a day Will will carry with him the rest of his life. It will be his ‘go-to’ good bull story forever and ever. As his mom, I can’t imagine being anywhere else that day than in the gallery. And to be able to share it with THOUSANDS of Aggies and other sweet readers? Well, that was just the icing on the cake.
Or, shall we say the pedestal for the national championship trophy?
With that, y’all make it a great weekend.
Goodness, but Mr. Manziel is quite the debonair chap! THAT is how a man wears a suit! 😉
That is SERIOUSLY awesome for Will! Really glad he had such a great day. 🙂
I missed the FB update on Luke – Congrats! That is such wonderful, wonderful news! Praise God – and I am so happy for you!
It was pretty much the news of the century Bonnie. I cried some big ‘ol happy tears – for ONCE!
I am so glad you wrote that and it led me to your blog. I’ve spent several hours “getting to know you” through your posts. What a great addition to morning reading!
Wow! So many things to comment about in this one.
2. How amazing for you son! That is awesome. What a moment. And I love that he was there for 4-H! I was in 4-H for 11 years, and I can’t wait for my son to be in it…4th generation!
3. I watched Father Leo on Throwdown with Bobby Flay just last week!
4. Umm how cool of a mom are you to have a Harry Potter party?
5. Sorry to hear about the flu! Glad that you are on the mend.
4-H opens so many doors – who knew it would open such a big one that day for Will. Awesome, awesome. Harry Potter details are coming soon. It may have been my most fun party ever. Thanks for stopping by!
Just WOW!!!!
WHOOP! And may I say, WHOOP! That is awesome! I remember being a little kid and lobbying the capital when we were homeschooled. So much fun (especially when you know where the candy dish was kept).
Thats awesome about your son!
Can’t wait to see who won the giveaway!!
Wowzer about yesterday’s post! How cool is that?!!! My favorite line from today’s…
“John Paul threw-up, but he said to stay and have a good time.” So very funny…for this mom who just survived a week of the norovirus (5 of 5 of us) and then a week of the actual influzenza…Tamiflu and all. Sorry, Luke…we don’t have enough for your college tuition after that year we had to pay the pharmacy bill! LOL
oh wow, you had quite a week! Crashing a server, now that is epic for a blogger!
Love the quidditch photo! My kids love Harry Potter, my youngest is taking a Hogwarts for Muggles class once a week and having so much fun 🙂
I’m crossing off “crashing the server” from my bucket list. What a fun unexpected surprise 🙂
Holy cow! I’ve been blogging for seven years, and if I had a day that big it would represent something like a sixth of my all-time views! I feel very small potatoes now! Hopefully you’ll get a permanent bump from it. 🙂
We’ve got to find out how to play Quidditch, and have a HP party. 🙂
