School Days
September sure got here in a hurry, didn’t it? Admittedly, I was happy/sad to see the school year start. Happy because my kids were driving me to drink getting up in each other’s business ALL THE TIME. Sad, because the house would be eerily quiet and I’d miss all the funny things they’d say.
I said it yesterday, and I’ll say it again. Life is short. My kids are reminding me that they grow up before your very eyes and more often than not, a bit quicker than we parents would like. I’ll have a post on that phenomenon soon, but for today, let’s rejoice in the beginning of school joy, shall we?
Big boy Will. You’ll have to check tomorrow’s QOTW for his gem on the first day of school. This kid is digging fourth grade and says this about his teacher, “I think I’m really gonna like fourth grade, Mom. Mrs. H makes learning fun.” In other words, she had me at hello. Oh, and this guy wanted nada to do with the photos of him sitting at his desk at school. Sigh. Welcome to fourth grade.
Mischevious John Paul. He yelled out, “I got the teacher I wanted!” on the first day. And, I’m almost certain I heard her shout, “I got the John Paul I wanted!” HAHA. There are actually four John’s in her class, two of which are John Paul’s. What are the odds? Um, high if you’re in a Catholic school, I guess.
Sweet Anna-Laura. I thought the boys loved school until ALG started up this fall. She is Chatty Cathy everyday in the van on the ride home. Everything is new and exciting and awesome. Honestly, she cannot get enough of learning. And, I’m totally loving the knee socks. Those things kill with cuteness.
Social Clare. Her first day, while surrounded by a sea of screaming, crying three-year-olds, there was smiling, happy Clare. With barely a wave and a big hug she exclaimed, “See you after wunch!”, and off she trotted to the toys. That’s my girl. Whip those classmates into shape. Can you tell she’s child #4?
Here we are. Another year of new beginnings. Another year of learning. Another year of putting of until Monday what we should’ve done on Friday. Here’s to sack lunches, field trips, Mass buddies, book reports, spelling tests, PSIA competitions and journaling. In a blink, I’ll be shaking my head in disbelief that May has arrived.
May we cherish our pre-k’er, kindergartener, first grader and fourth grader. May we pray for their teachers, their administrators and their teaching assistants. Raise a crayon and a pair of scissors to their best year yet!
What happened to the little guys I once knew? Especially Clare… killin' me!
Miss you tons. Love you tons. Squeezes all around!
AMEN!
