Top Ten: WWSD? (What Would Supermom Do?)

I don’t know!! There are days I feel like a supermom, other days…well, I feel like CPS could be knocking at my door any moment. I have no doubt every mom I know feels the same.

God has blessed me with many superwomen in my life – some shepherd a flock of 11 and some a flock of 1. Either way, they’re all super in my book. They’ve taught me many lessons. Some advice I’ve been too stubborn to heed and learned the hard way. I’d like to share some of that sage advice with each of you.

TOP TEN: WWSD?

1. When you need to make a really, really important phone call, lock yourself in a closet or in the van in the garage.

2. Sometimes it’s ok to send the kids to school with a processed, pre-packaged lunch with everything you swore you wouldn’t feed them. They’ll think it’s awesome and you can make the Rachel Ray lunch another day.

3. If you just pick up your house and open a bottle of PineSol for 15 minutes, people will think you clean all the time. I mean, not that I’ve done that…

4. Sleep when the baby sleeps. Seriously. And, if that means you put on Backyardigans for 30 minutes for the older ones, so be it.

5. Find a day for laundry and do it the same day every week. You’ll at least feel like you’re getting something accomplished.

6. It’s a given. If you say something the kids aren’t supposed to hear, they hear. And they repeat it. At the most inappropriate time.

7. If you have to choose between bed and facebook, choose bed. You’ll thank yourself the next morning at 0530. The “25 Random Things” posts will still be there tomorrow.

8. Make it a priority to limit your kids to one activity at a time, no matter how many children live under your roof. Your gas bill, your sanity and your child will thank you. There’s nothing wrong with sending a “bored” child out the back door with strict instructions to have fun. They’ll figure something out…

9. Kids crave routine. They need it to feel safe. Doesn’t mean you have to be all OCD on them, but structure will make your life as a mom, I dare say, enjoyable.

10. Read to your kids – a lot. Pray with your kids, even more. Show them what it means to be a child of God. We could all learn a lesson from that playbook.
