A Birthday in Paris? Oui! Oui!

Paris, it sure was good to see you again.

Three years ago, my oldest daughter celebrated her birthday in Parisian style, so I was a *teeny* bit excited when daughter number two decided to follow suit.

Grab a parasol, a croissant and let’s talk a stroll through Paris, shall we?

When girls arrived they received their passport, which was stamped at each station they completed. Anna-Laura was more than happy to be my passport stamper. Love her.

Our first stop? Architecture. Or, as party planners like to call it Create-an-Eiffel-Tower station. Using sugar wafers and icing, the girls crafted their own interpretations of the Paris icon. Some were a bit more modern, some greatly lacked engineering (but they tasted mighty fine) and some got a bit of love from an adult. Aunt Amanda and Mr. Whitaker had a head-to-head competition. Not too bad, but not sure I’d be pinning these for any awards, other than taste!

Either way, they didn’t go up as easy as Pinterest said they would, but they sure went down as a tasty snack.

Station number two was Pin the Butterfly on the Eiffel Tower. Ah, a family favorite. Anna-Laura did the blindfolding and spinning, Luke held passports, Clare provided moral support and Will kept them from losing their balance. John Paul played xbox upstairs. He’s a giver. If ever you need a party game hit, turn to the trusty “pin the something on something.” It works every time. Pro tip: put the thing you’re pinning onto, on foam core, punch holes and then hang on your fence. It holds up sturdier than poster board and affixes better than tape!

We rotated between the third and fourth stations, the photo booth and crepe making. I snapped photos, Scott manned crepes. The feather boa and photo props were great fun. I think my nephew enjoyed them the most. You go with your cute self, Jack.

Crepes turned out fantastic and quite tasty. The girls prepared them and then the boys made them even yummier with some fresh strawberries and a dash of whipped cream. I didn’t snap one pic of the girls at work, but this one of Scott and Luke sure makes up the cuteness factor.

The best stop of all was around our dining room table. The boys served the girls lunch and then we sang happy birthday to sweet Clare. Our original plan to host the party outside got squashed with all the recent rains we’ve been having. While not ideal, we made it work. I’m pretty sure the party girls didn’t care one bit. My neighbor was kind enough to let me borrow her light up Eiffel Tower. The girls declared it the hit of the party.

The boys did a fine job of serving the girls lunch, ties and all. I promised them a strawberry macaron in exchange for that chivalrous act. They happily obliged. Cheap help!

The girls went home with a simple water bottle and a chocolate candy mold of the Eiffel Tower. Little pro tip here. When melting the chocolate, don’t reach for the bowl while simultaneously talking to your husband. You, your clothes, the counter, stove, microwave, rug, floor, cabinet and trashcan might also wear that chocolate when you drop said bowl. Maybe.

We did give out three prizes – a pink Eiffel Tower piggybank – for winning “best crepe,” “closest butterfly to the Eiffel Tower’s center” and “best Eiffel Tower out of sugar wafers” (Dad’s and aunt’s not eligible to win). I had a few of those banks left over from Anna-Laura’s party and they seemed like the perfect things to give away!
