How I Healed My Diastasis Recti

FULL DISCLAIMER: I am not a medical professional and this is not medical advice. I highly encourage you to visit with your obstetrician, physical therapist or other trained professional before you proceed to heal your diastasis recti (DR). Every time I mention my DR (abdominal separation) I get a million questions and emails. Ok, not a million, but a lot. I was actually going to show you some "before" pictures but then I decided the Internet didn't need to have those ...

The Cross of Perfection

Growing up, I heard this often: If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well. What, you, too? For as far back, and forward, as I can remember success equaled perfection. And vice versa. It's been this pursuit of perfection that has driven me to try new things, but more often than not, it's my downfall. Or, more appropriately, my cross. Maybe it's yours, too. We live in this world that tells us to be a perfect wife, you must have ...

Kathryn’s Favorite Things: A Religious Shopping Guide

Remember back when Oprah had her favorite things episode on her talk show? That was nuts. As much as I enjoyed seeing everyone squeal like kids on Christmas morning, I was always curious to see what Oprah chose and why. This is kinda like that, but without the TV deal. I've mentioned our "three gift" Christmas we celebrate with our kids. The gold gift is the one they want the most (within reason), myrrh is a gift for the body and ...

BUSTED! A Phineas and Ferb Birthday Party

Sing with me: There's 104 days of summer vacation and school comes along just to end it. So the annual problem for our generation is finding a good way to spend it..." It's entirely possible I loved this theme just as much as my 7yo. It might also be true that I've set the DVR to record Phineas and Ferb without the kids around. {ahem} Moving on. Luke's birthday was back in September and because I'm the on-time police, we ...

Dinner Just Got Way Easier

Two words: dinner hour. Two more words: shoot me. Between kids' activities, Scott's work schedule, my graphic design work and my inability to drink Dr Pepper intravaneously, preparing for dinner sometimes puts me in the crazy house. It also means that sometimes we eat nachos for dinner with a side of goldfish. Just keeping it real. I try, very hard, to prepare great meals for the family that fit within our $250/week grocery budget. And, as much as I love to ...

Are You Advent Ready? j/k 🙂

I must be joking, right? Seriously. I'm not even back-to-school ready and that happened like three months ago. The kid who had a birthday in September just got his birthday party LAST WEEK. In November. Clearly, I am killing it. Be jealous. But, you know, Advent starts in two weeks and people are going to start busting out the Elf on the Shelf (the bane of my existence), screaming movie lines from "Elf" like they wrote the movie and hitting ...

Howdy!

... and welcome to the mess. I know a thing or two about big families (I've got 6 kids + a daughter-in-law), carpool, grief, Jesus, the Texas Aggies, prematurity, marriage counseling, decluttering and party planning, but I still don't know why it's so hard for my kids to put up their shoes. My Texas-sized heart is honored to have you here!
