HDYDI: Get out the Door on Time

People always ask me, "How do you get everybody ready for school and out the door by 7:30am?" Practice. When we just had Will in school, it was (say it with me): "Soooo hard."  HA!  I think it felt hard because we had so many littles running around.  John Paul was 2 and Anna-Laura had just turned one.  A few months later, I found out we were expecting Clare.  So, yeah, the exhaustion thing is what it made it so ...

Top Ten: How to Survive the NICU

One quick programming note.  I'll have your Luke update tomorrow.  We are waiting on a call from his gastroenterologist about a procedure which I'll share more about soon.  Our little guy needs some big prayers. ----- Last Monday I had the honor of joining in on the Hand to Hold Lunch & Learn panel:  New Year, New You.  There were two other moms who touched on self-care and physical care.  I spoke about surviving the NICU from a mom perspective.  How ...

HDYDI: Keeping Track of Meds

With seven people in the house we have a lot of germs.  Even though I've become quite the germaphobe, sickness happens.  I used to have baskets of medicine and first aid supplies and it was just all thrown in the cabinet (or two or three cabinets).  That system worked for a while, but it wasn't efficient and I found myself chunking so many unopened bottles of expired medications and 2-3 half-used bottles of another. I detest inefficiency. In an effort ...

We are a Culture of Death

As each of you reads this, I pray you know two things: 1.  I am pro-life and it extends to every part of my being. 2.  I deeply respect the right to have a different opinion than mine.  That was never more evident than this week, as I saw posts on both sides of the fence from sweet friends of mine.  We were college roomates, sorority sisters, colleagues, friends and neighbors.  They aren't just my "friends" on facebook.  They really ...

A Prayer Box and a Prayer

I could wallow in self-pity and lament about how crummy the last two weeks have been with Luke, or I can remember my word for 2012:  positivity.  I'm choosing the latter.  On Monday, I'll have more to share about little Luke after we visit his gastroenterologist.  Yes, it's really that bad. Waa, waa. Onward and upward.  Several months ago, I volunteered to be the gala coordinator for John Paul's second grade class.  {what was I thinking?!}  I was just excited to ...

Top Ten: So many things

I have so many things swirling around in my head that need to be blogged about: 1.  Luke's horrific last two weeks. 2.  The craziness that is John Paul. 3.  The cuteness that is Clare. 4.  The recent HHS ruling. 5.  The news story out today about some defective birth control pills.  (that may be a series of posts) 6.  Susan G. Komen's decision to break ties with Planned Parenthood. 7.  Babies. 8.  My frustration with ECI, insurance companies and ...

Howdy!

... and welcome to the chaos. I know a thing or two about big families (I've got 6 kids), carpool, Catholic converts, the Texas Aggies, prematurity, date nights with Mr. Whitaker, organization and party planning, but I still don't know why it's so hard for my kids to  put up their shoes. My Texas-sized heart is honored to have you here! Contact me at kathrynwhitakertx@gmail.com
