Week in My Life 2015: Monday
Oversharing alert. For the next week, I’m writing about what life is *really* like at Casa Whitaker. It’s likely to include Dr Pepper, sibling rivalry, lots of diapers and some serious van time. If you’re a blogger, I’d love for you to join me (linkup at the bottom) and if you’re an Instagrammer, we’re all over there using #weekinmylife15 You can catch up on the week here: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sometimes, it’s just really a Monday, isn’t it?
We were coming in hot from a 20-hour roadtrip over the weekend. As I type that it sounds completely insane. But, my fellow Texans will feel me when I say, “Hey, we just drove to the Panhandle and back this weekend.” So, yes, that 20 hours was all in one state. More on that come Wednesday.
Back to Monday. I got up super early and didn’t even hit snooze. That was pretty much my only win today. The big five were up around 6:45 and started getting breakfast going and lunches packed. Yes, that is heaven. Except when they fight. Which they did. We’ve got an extra kid with us in the mornings this week, so we made a little more room at the breakfast table for him.
I got the kids dropped off at school and came back to join Scott for a quick kiss and hug before he headed out the door to work. This year, I’ve started taking the kids to school and I must say, I really enjoy it. We typically pray on the ride over, ask for prayer requests and end with a Hail Mary and a Guardian Angel prayer. There’s usually rolled eyes and crying, but today, everyone was on their best behavior.
Our weekend away left us with some serious laundry so rather than have Mt. Everest come Friday, I decided to do three quick loads. And then I realized we were out of detergent. Monday {shakes fist}.
Just as I settled into the couch to dig into some client work, I checked my phone and – HOLY ****. Yep, realized I had exactly 30 minutes to feed Gianna (nurse and breakfast), pick Luke up from school and take them both to the pediatrician for their well checks. Never mind that I’m nearly six months late on Gianna’s and two months behind with Luke. Such. Is. Life.
Somehow, I pulled the hat trick and got us there. There were shots (ouch), stickers and lots of shenanigans in the office. A friend came over after I got Luke back at school and we painted 36 bubble wands to look like light sabers.
Because I’ve officially gone insane.
Actually, I haven’t. This is probably the best story of the day. You might remember me sharing that one of the boys at our school lost his mom to cancer in September. Well, a few of us got to cooking up a surprise and we’re hosting one kick ASS Star Wars birthday party tomorrow afternoon. Nearly a dozen businesses donated their goods and services to make the day happen, along with a whole slew of moms. It has easily been one of the coolest, most heartwarming, things I have ever taken part. I promise, there will be more to that story on the blog.
Naptime, lunch and some serious client work later and it was time to get the kids from school. September through early December is my busiest season as a graphic designer. And, I usually find myself up über late a couple of nights a month. Monday was that night, er morning. I don’t complain because I love my clients, but man, I need sleep!
After school pickup, we hauled it down to downtown Austin to pick up some light saber cupcakes, then back to the house for homework hell. It’s usually not horrific, but you know, Monday. Not our best day in the land of reading, writing and arithmetic. It was more like, where’s the margarita? Scott had a late work event, so I was flying solo.
Funniest story of the day? Clare. On our way down to get cupcakes, she asked what she could buy at our school’s annual book fair – a toy or a book. To which I replied, “It’s a book fair, Clare. We buy books.” She insisted on getting an eraser. I held my ground and told her I could buy like a dozen at Office Max for the cost of one at the fair. Well, evidently that was the wrong thing to say. “You never let us buy anything! You hate erasers, especially the cute ones! It’s not fair!” Repeat 503 times. There you have it. I am the official eraser hater. Who knew?
Gianna and I popped out one more time to pick up the party cookies from a friend while Anna-Laura and Clare baked birthday treats, Will supervised the Luke shower and John Paul finished homework. Teenagers can be helpful. Sometimes.
Scott came home, we worked on party things, he went to bed and I stayed up way, way, way too late knocking out client work.
Tomorrow, we party.
Oh, that party! What a wonderful idea. I’m sure it will be fabulous and I can’t wait to see pictures! Love the week in the life series…I should really do my own but it would be so boring!
I totally think you should do it – not boring at all!
[…] am following in Kathryn Whitaker‘s great example and doing a quick ‘Week in my Life […]
Saw the bubble wands and was very intrigued. So excited to hear more about that great party that you all are throwing!
FWIW – we had a Monday too. At least mine didn’t include the flat tire that my coworker’s did. Bright side!
I cannot wait for the party details!!!
Side note – I don’t believe the link up is working – not like you have a million other things to do : )
I am so technologically challenged this week. For the love. It’s finally working!
I am trying to link up and it’s not working for me!
I wish I knew how to ‘link up’… 🙂
Working now – yes!!
Not sure why, but the linkup isn’t working for me! But so happy to be blogging this week! 🙂
Working now – hooray!
