Week in My Life: Day 3, Wednesday

This week,  I’m participating in the “Week in My Life” series. You can read about day one and day two and get all caught up on the shenanigans.

After blogging the last couple of days, I worried that I’ve scared the entire planet from having a large family. Yeah, it’s busy and messy and chaotic, but it’s also ridiculously fun and loud and awesome. All you mommas of fewer little people in your home, remember this:  I started out with one baby, too. My life was much different then, but fortunately God has given me a decade to adjust.

He is such a smart man.

Okay, on to the day.

0525 came and I got UP! And went RUNNING! Well, let’s really call it like we see it. It was probably jogging. Slowly. But, I still got my hiney going before the chickens and ran/jogged/stumbled 1.5 miles. That’s worth something, right??

Shower, email, breakfast, kisses and coffee for the hubs and everyone was out the door. Luke and I, included.

He had three hours of therapy today – speech, occupational and physical. I dream of the day when I just write all his therapists emails about the good ‘ol days and run into them at the grocery store instead of the play gym. Someday, someday. If you’re new to the blog, the quick story is that our youngest was born premature and has a number of challenges that therapy is helping him overcome. If you want the long story, get yourself a cup of Joe and click on his preemie story.

While he was chatting up with his speech therapist, I knocked out some thank you notes and enjoyed some social media IN COMPLETE SILENCE. It was pretty much awesome. We usually take a quick break during his three-hour therapy days and today we visited the mothership, Target, for a few essentials. Diapers, toilet paper, you know. I made the mistake of also purchasing a birthday gift for a friend of his. Let’s just say that a 3yo doesn’t really understand the concept of “gift” and “not mine.” I somehow managed a quite impressive display of divert and distract and got him back to therapy with no lasting damage. Sidenote:  love the Target store pic. L was playing the “monkey” game on my phone. He is slightly addicted.

In a spontaneous “I love my husband” moment, we had an unexpected lunch at one of our favorite places, Freebirds. Where the burritos are awesome and the tea is marked like this:

I *heart* Freebirds. Thanks for the date, honey! It was time to pick up L from therapy. He barely kept his eyes open for the ride home and I put him down for a nap. Before I did, though, he pointed to the chair and said, “Rock, momma?” You bet, big man. I kinda would’ve stayed there all afternoon with his sweet head on my chest and his little arm wrapped tightly around his bunny. But, after a few minutes he popped up and said, “Bed.” The man has spoken. The next few hours were filled with client work, phone calls and emails.

Next up, carline, homework, dinner prep and a ball full of a crazy night. But, before it got into full swing, I promised everyone a fun activity.

Spider webs!

I’ve been holding onto that activity for a while and figured since the weather was nice and we had a few minutes, why not? I love the group shot. Will is none too happy. I had just told him, “Time to go in and finish your homework.” I’m such a buzzkill.

My oldest had Extreme Math. Yes, he’s a math geek and yes, I’m quite proud. Son #2 had a football game, so we had to eat in shifts tonight. The girls, Luke and I before the game/math and the boys and Scott after the game. Hey, it is what it is. At least dinner was hot, awesome and easy. Lynne’s Chicken. The most important ingredient? Cooking WINE. Holla!

After dinner, I got breakfast ready for Thursday while the kids enjoyed a few minutes of screen time. A rare treat during the week at our house. But, the apps were educational, so I caved. Hey, survival is the name of the game, folks.

Scott and John Paul went to the game and the girls and Luke and I divided our team between the game and picking up big brother from math. At least we ended the night with a flag football win. Whoop!

And, par for the course, I coasted into the gas station on “E.” I do this at least once a week. It drives Scott bananas.

It was nice to have an extra set of hands tonight for the bedtime routine. While Scott finished getting everyone in bed, I retreated to the office to wrap up some work, this post and call “fifteen for team, call it a night.” Sorry, Aggie thing. As promised, here’s our “assembly line of lunches.” It makes me smile everytime I see it. Scott? Notsomuch, since he’s the one making them.

I finally unplugged and the Mr. and I settled in to watch a little Harry Potter (please, say it with a British accent, it sounds SO much better). Tomorrow, should be pretty laid back. Of course, I say that now…

    K,
Tell us about what’s in the bento boxes(love ours) I struggle (especially for my picky lauryn) to make healthy lunches.
    Thanks!

Scott is the lunch man, so he can probably answer that best! The closed compartment always has fruit. We try hard to make sure it’s fresh fruit, but sometimes we have to go with the backup fruit snacks. The other compartments have crunchy stuff, i.e. pretzels, goldfish, pirate’s booty, PB crackers, animal crackers, etc. The kids either get a sandwich or tortilla wrap as the main entree. Sometimes we’ll throw in dinner leftovers, but not often. Sandwiches are either pb&j, pb&honey or nutella. When I remember to get carrots at the store, we put those in there, too. This fall, we started putting an ice pack in there to keep everything really cold.

Dude. The coasting into the gas station on E. My best friend here in Michigan is the same way and it drives ME bananas, too! How can that not stress y’all out????? *hyperventilating*

Hey. She’s originally from Texas, too. Maybe I’m onto something here…

    😉

It does stress me out, but everytime I think to look, we’re no where near a gas station. I just need to start filling up at a 1/4 tank. HA. Like that’ll happen.
