“HARRY POTTER!!!!”

I know the kids said some really funny things this week, but this has been Will’s mantra since we told him we were taking him to see Part I of HP and the Deathly Hallows.  We had some reservations, as the movie is rated PG-13.  However, Will has read all seven books, five times through, and Scott and I have read them, as well!  We’ve engaged in some really in-depth conversations with Will about good vs. evil, how belief in good ultimately triumphs and how we all experience roadblocks in life.

We knew about some of the questionable scenes and had Will close his eyes in a couple.  We talked about why and I was really proud of how he digested the movie, what his favorite scenes were and what he liked the most.  I’m not sure that I would take any fourth grader to the show, but Will was certainly ready to see it.  Plus, it was a rare thing for a Whitaker child to have both of his parents’ undivided attention.  That was worth the money we spent right there.

JK Rowling is a master of the pen and one would be remiss to see the movies without first reading the book. That’s pretty much my take on any book made into a movie.  Don’t bother buying a ticket unless you’ve done the former.  There was actually a guy sitting next to me tonight that hadn’t read ANY of the books or seen ANY of the movies.  Dude.  You just totally wasted $10 and 2 1/2 hours of your life.  He was completely in the dark the entire movie.

It was a really wonderful night out with two of the men in my life.  All I can say is this…it’s going to be a long time ’til July when Part II debuts in theatres!

We don’t have much on the family calendar this weekend.  Hooray!  Make it a great weekend.

I've read (and loved) all the books, but haven't seen the movies. I am afraid of being disappointed.
