One of those days…

I was all prepared to give you the Luke update this morning and then all hell broke loose.  Motherhood is a beautiful vocation, that I believe.  But there are some days that you just want to crawl back in bed and cry out, “do over!!”

It was one of those mornings.

Actually, it started early, early this morning at 1:30am when Luke wouldn’t go back to sleep.  He’s been congested for the past week and this morning it was definitely getting worse.  In a desperate attempt to get sleep (we’ve been averaging 3-4 hours a night for more than a week), we got him settled and put him in the swing.  Praise GOD he slept until everyone woke him up at 7:15 this morning.

Clare overflowed the upstairs toilet in an effort to help clean up her potty mess.  While overflowing the toilet, she also managed to get poop in more places than I thought possible.

Oh, and did I mention that Monday is laundry day?  I had like 8 loads calling my name – make that 4 more after seeing the bathroom/bedroom/gameroom/stairway mess.  At least the clothes were in color-coded piles all over the living room floor.

While I was on hold with the doctor’s office to get an appointment for Luke, I attempted Bathroom Detox 2010.  Fun times, folks.  Fun times.  All the while, Clare is saying, “Next time I go poop, I go get mommy or daddy.  I make a mess.”  To which Anna-Laura shrugs her shoulders and replies, “It happens.”

Yes…IT happens.

I realize about 5 minutes into the holding for the doctor, that the bathroom needs way more Mr. Clean than I have at my fingertips.  So, I bundle what I can in a sack, throw it outside, wash my hands about 50 times and get the girls dressed.  The appointment scheduler says they have an appointment in 45 minutes or after 1pm.  I jump at the sooner one, take a 45-second shower (seriously), throw on some clothes and lipstick, change a diaper, throw in a load of laundry, start the dishwasher, clear off the kitchen table and hustle three kids into the van.

Can I tell you how thankful I am at this point that I got my hair cut and colored on Saturday afternoon?  It actually still looked decent and made me look way more together than I felt.

I buckle everyone in, hit the garage door open and realize that it’s pouring rain.  Awesome.

The verdict at the doctor is that Luke has RSV.  Double awesome.

We don’t have to head to the hospital unless his breathing gets worse or he develops a fever along with that breathing.  I’ve decided that he’s pretty much quarantined until he’s 16.

And that just got you to 9:30 this morning.

Moral of the story?  Get your hair cut on the weekend.  Come Monday, you’ll be glad that’s the one thing you don’t have to do.

Luke update tomorrow 🙂

these are the kind of days. i. do. not. like.

you are ABSOLUTELY allowed to not like it either. (for that matter, it's hard to like ANYTHING on a couple hours of sleep – much less, poop, laundry and sick kids!)

    indeed, anna-laura. IT does happen.
